A word thanking our sponsors....

We’ve got an awesome new piece of equipment here at Green Guru. HUGE thanks to @Sailrite for sponsoring us with a walking-foot style sewing machine. Originally made for sail building and repair, this portable machine is durable and ideal for what we sew together to make our products. Were going to be taking it on the road with us to show off what we do with upcycled bike tubes and wetsuit material. We are also putting together a bicycle generator that will be ridden to power this bad boy. Come check it out!

We highly recommend this machine for any craftsman out there! Anyone interested in @Sailrite, visit their website www.sailrite.com.

UpCycled Asia

UPCYCLE ASIA !!!

Believe it or not, we have made some serious progress with our gear in Asia! In the past few months we have been making sales in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and we are working on Singapore. These people have shown some love for our new lightweight backpacks, like the Freewheeler and the Spinner. We were recently featured in a Japanese magazine, called Lightening, that is read throughout the entire country. We are super stoked about it, but no one in our office can read the article!

It is great to know that people on the other side of the world have similar views as us and are interested in living the Green Guru life. The bike scene in Asia must be bigger than we think and we hope to help it grow!

When it comes to riding all day or riding hard for just a few hours, I do everything I can to not have a backpack. Seatpacks have long been a mainstay of my stable—the very first one I purchased back in 1994 still sees regular use. When the Green Guru Shifter saddle bag showed up for review, I more ...

Recycled inner tubes as a community service project.

We here at Green Guru just want to give a big THANK YOU to the folks over at SustainAbility...
http://www.go-green-recycling.com/Go_Green/Home.html

They are fantastic people and make their own gear, please see their fine web site and if you are in Denver please support their effort to accept hard to recycle material and turn it into something good for us all. They sell their goods at a near by hot upcycled shop called ReVampt in the Cherry Creek Mall area of Denver.

Way to go stylish people!

Upcycle Project | Do it yourself recycling Homemade Rubber Bands

This comes from our other blog: http://blog.greengurugear.com/

Why use those boring nude colored rubber bands when you can have bold black ones? Not to mention the potential of having what we have all secretly want to make, a rubber band ball.

To get started all you need is your old inner tubes and scissors and you are ready to roll. I took the inner tube, laid it out and made a first cut through the tube, don’t feel guilty the tube is going to a better place. Then simply make another cut about a centimeter from the first cut to make a band. The awesome thing is you can vary the width of your cuts to make really wide or skinny bands for different strengths. The circumference also varies if you are using an old road bike inner tube to an old mountain bike inner tube, so many choices! And it is that simple, you now have, in my opinion, the coolest rubber bands from here to the bike shop.

Supplies: -old inner tube (bike) -scissors

Green Guru Gear

This first blog is to come right out and say it. We are a business that does its best to make everything from hard to recycle materials like Bicycle Innertubes. We have another blog that's much more formal. This one is a little more free form.

So Green Guru Gear is:
Eco-friendly luggage, bags, bike accessory, and lifestyle product company from Boulder, Colorado. Proud to manufacture great, durable products constructed from recycled, upcycled and reclaimed materials like bike tubes, wetsuits, climbing ropes, banners and more. Made in the USA. Check us out at www.greengurugear.com.

We also have a sister company that makes private label gear. In the past we have made some fun things for companies like Aspen Skin Mountain, where we took their old ski jackets and made sweet zipper pocket purses and handbags. We have made underwater camera floats from old neoprene and beer cozies for local breweries. Actually we have made a literal ton of beer cozies for local microbreweries like New Belgium and Dogfish Head(Thanks Guys!)

Everyday I am going to fill the world in about other cool things we are making. Its a fun gig making things in the US for a fun crowd. Most of us are into cruising on our bikes and we hope you will take some time out today to get on a bike.

Happy Riding!
